American Express Rewards Card
By Hillary Smith • Mar 27th, 2008 • Customer RatingHow much do I really need to write about the American Express Rewards card? Most of you have already switched over to it from your current credit card because the rates are good and the rewards are better! For those of you not yet convinced, I’ll give it my best shot. (Disclaimer: This is the only card I use, so this is the only slightly biased review)
The American Express rewards card is the only card in the UK that offers DECENT rewards. Not just some crappy “points” that you will never redeem but real value points, cash, vouchers, airmiles and a lot more. American Express did not take off as quick as Visa or Mastercard because they put their customers first. The spent years researching and asking their customers exactly what they wanted. They delivered.
I cannot say enough good things about theAmerican express rewards credit card. I personally use it every day. Let’s outline the pros first:
American Express Rewards Pros:
- Lower rates than any mastercard or visa
- You earn reward points when you spend which can be redeemed for literally thousands of items or cash.
- American Express have a whole catalog of items, including flights that you can redeem.
- No late fees
- Interest free for your first year!
- Lots of free stuff
- Rewards
- Rewards
American Express Cons:
- (This is serious) Many people find themselves spending more than they should to earn “reward points”.
- A handling fee of 3% if you do a balance transfer (Do NOT do this).
- Some online retailers don’t take it. Although this is almost at an end. By the time you get your card…
All in all, as I said, this is going to be the first and last biased review by the credit card watchdog. Millions of customers love the card including us. The rewards are a refreshing change. Getting something back from your credit card rather than giving and giving is a breath of fresh air. I personally get a round trip flight a year and some other nick nacks from my rewards. Some people exchange theirs for cash. I cannot “urge” you enough to apply for an American express rewards card enough.
You can apply for your american express rewards card free here.
