How Does A Prepaid Mastercard Work?
By Hillary Smith • May 11th, 2008 • Customer RatingMany people come to us with this question. How exactly does a prepaid mastercard work and what exactly is it? To be honest, it’s really quite simple…
A prepaid mastercard was brought in by mastercard to allow people that cannot get a credit card for whatever reason, to buy things online. Let’s face it, we all need to make a purchase online in this day and age but what if you have bad credit or are too young for a credit card? What if you don’t want a credit card?
The prepaid mastercard works just like a pay as you go mobile phone. You pay a couple of pounds to get the card then you “top it up”. You can use your prepaid mastercard anywhere online as long as you have money on your card.
For example, if you are buying something from HMV.com, say a CD for £20 and you only have £15 on your card, it will be declined. You can only spend what you have on your card. This way, you never get into debt like with a credit card and you can budget more easily.
The best thing about a prepaid mastercard is that there is no credit check, no bank account check and there is no approval process. EVERYONE can get one. What’s even better, for most cards, there is absolutely no age limit.
There are three different types of prepaid mastercard available in the UK that we recommend. They are, in order of how good they are, The CashPlus Prepaid Mastercard, The Tuxedo Prepaid Mastercard and The Virgin Prepaid Mastercard. Click on each card below to find out more.
