Amex Prepaid Debit Card - Does It Exist?
By Hillary Smith • Mar 29th, 2008 • Customer RatingWe get this question a lot here are the credit watchdog. With the emergence of prepaid visa cards and prepaid mastercards in the UK over the past year, many are turning their attention to American Express. Everyone wants to know if a prepaid american express card exists.
Unfortunately, the answer to this is NO. American Express do not offer a prepaid card in the UK, OR in the US. There have been rumors and pressure from AMEX shareholders to make this available over the coming year.
The only options are either a prepaid credit card or an a free american express rewards card. You can read our AMEX rewards card review here.
The only options for prepaid cards in the UK at the moment are prepaid mastercards. There is ONE prepaid Visa in the form of the 3v prepaid card, but as we have preached hundreds of times already, the 3v card is the biggest rip off of a visa card available. Stay clear of it!
If you are not too young for a credit card, we would recommend getting a free amex rewards card, or sticking with the cashplus prepaid mastercard.
